Privacy

This site is run by one person and collects as little as it can. What follows describes exactly what it does, in plain terms.

Who runs this site

The site and its mailing list are run by the author, D. T. Stelmaszek, who decides what is collected and why. Write to dt@dtstelmaszek.com about anything on this page.

If you just read the site

The site itself keeps no record of you and sets no cookie for readers. There is no analytics, no tracking pixel, and no advertising network. (The web host keeps ordinary server logs; see below.)

Every file the site loads — the typeface, the images, the stylesheet — is served from this domain. No request is made to Google, Facebook, Amazon, or anyone else, so apart from the web host that runs the server, no third party learns that you were here.

If you join the mailing list

Four things are stored, plus an internal entry number and an on-or-off status for your entry:

  • Your email address, so a book announcement can reach you.
  • The date and time you signed up.
  • The IP address you signed up from, as part of the record of the signup. On its own it cannot prove who typed the address.
  • Which page you signed up on, so I know which one works.

Your name is not asked for. The list is not sold, rented, shared or swapped, and it is not used for anything other than writing to you about the books.

Joining is optional; if you do not join, the only difference is that you get no emails. The only reason any of this is held is that you asked to join. You can withdraw that consent at any time, by writing to the address below or using the unsubscribe link in any email. Withdrawing does not make what happened before it unlawful.

How long it is kept, and where

Your entry is kept until you leave the list or ask for it to be deleted, and then it is removed from the list. Copies in the web host’s routine backups expire on the host’s own schedule.

It is stored in this site’s own database, on a rented web server in the United States. If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, that means your address is held outside it. The web host stores it as part of running the server and has no other use for it.

No email has been sent from the list yet. When it is, a sending service will be used to deliver it, and this page will name that service before the first email goes out.

Getting off the list, or seeing what is held

Write to dt@dtstelmaszek.com and ask. You can ask for a copy of what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted, and deletion means deleted — not flagged as inactive.

You can also ask for your use of the list to be paused while a question is sorted out, object to it, or ask for your entry in a form you can take elsewhere. Every email sent from the list will carry an unsubscribe link.

If you think your information has been mishandled, please write first so it can be put right. You also have the right to complain to the data-protection authority where you live; in the United Kingdom that is the Information Commissioner’s Office.

AI and social media

The books and some of the author’s social media posts are written with the help of AI (see the AI and fiction disclosure). No reader’s information is ever given to an AI service.

The author posts on social media platforms such as Bluesky and Threads. Nothing from those platforms is built into this site. If you follow or reply to the author there, that platform’s own privacy policy applies.

Server logs

Like effectively every website, the hosting provider keeps standard access logs — requested address, time, browser, IP — as part of running and securing the server. Those are the host’s ordinary operational records and are not used to build any profile of you.

Children

These are novels for adults and the mailing list is not intended for anyone under 16. If a child has signed up, write to the address above and the entry will be removed.

If this changes

Should the site ever add analytics, advertising, or anything served by a third party, this page will say so before it happens, and the date above will change.
